FOA News – The shooting at civilians waiting to receive aid took place in the context of increased efforts by all sides to deliver more aid to the Gaza Strip, an area devastated by the Hamas-Israel conflict.

On March 15, health authorities in Gaza run by Hamas accused Israeli forces of opening fire on civilians waiting to receive aid in the northern Gaza Strip, killing 20 people and injuring 155.

The Israeli army immediately denied the above accusations. In a statement, the Israeli army said it did not open fire on people waiting to receive aid.

The incident took place in the context of increased efforts by all sides to deliver more aid to the Gaza Strip, an area devastated by the Hamas-Israel conflict.

Many United Nations agencies warn of the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip, which has been blockaded by Israel since October 2023.

Many countries have had to send planes to drop aid into the Gaza Strip because access to the area by land via Egypt and Israel is limited. Germany also announced it would join the cargo release effort.

However, 25 international organizations warn that airdrops or sea routes to deliver aid are “no substitute” for ground relief operations.

Meanwhile, on March 14, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would attack the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, despite international public pressure to prevent this.

About 1.5 million Palestinians are seeking refuge along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt, in and around the city of Rafah after being evacuated from other areas.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said Israel plans to ask the 1.4 million Palestinians displaced from the city of Rafah to find other shelters, before the country’s army launches a new military attack.
