US media on the night of February 8 (noon February 9, Hanoi time) predicted that former US President Donald Trump would easily win the Republican caucus in Nevada, with almost absolute support.

The Associated Press explained that they drew conclusions based on analysis of provisional counting results, although the number of newly counted votes was at 3%, showing Trump with an overwhelming lead in 6 locations across the state. Nearly all the votes in the caucuses went for Trump, about 98%. The American media’s forecast is the basis for quickly determining the winner before all votes are counted.

Only a small number of voters voted for candidate Ryan Binkley, Mr. Trump’s only opponent in the caucus. Mr. Trump’s overwhelming victory was predicted in advance because Binkley was not a well-known candidate.

Former US ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Nikki Haley, Mr. Trump’s main opponent in the Republican party, did not participate in the Nevada caucus meeting because of the state’s unusual voting mechanism.

Other US states often choose between caucuses and primary votes to choose candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties, but Nevada organizes both forms. Republican voters can participate in the primary, but the results are only symbolic. Only caucus results are recognized.

Mrs. Haley gave up her chance in Nevada when choosing to vote in the primary and Mr. Trump participated in the caucuses.

Many Trump supporters lined up in Nevada waiting to vote for the former president. Many voters wore hats and shirts printed with his campaign slogan, emphasizing that they would help the former president win.

Victory in Nevada helped Trump win the support of 26 delegates. On February 8, the Republican Party branch in the US Virgin Islands also announced that Mr. Trump won the primary election here with a support rate of 74%, far ahead of Ms. Haley who received only 26% of the vote, helping him won 4 delegates.

Previously, Mr. Trump won two Republican primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire, winning the support of 32 delegates. Candidates need to win the support of at least 1,215 of the 2,429 delegates to become Republican representatives participating in the presidential election in November. Ms. Haley won 17 delegates.
